Take & Lyle's Black Treacle gives a deep depth taste to rich foods like gingerbread, toffee, Christmas puddings and even BBQ sauces. Black treacle is uncrystallized syrup that's formed when making sugar, normally known as the British version of American molasses and is dark and thick, with a bitter taste. There are different levels of syrup starting with golden syrup that is sweet and light to black treacle. American mollasses is darker in colour and thicker than it's British, "little sweeter" equivalent. The darker the treacle the more bitter the flavour, most people use treacle instead of American molasses and blackstrap molasses as the textures and flvourings are close enough, just black treacle is a little sweeter and more runny.
